Abstract

In order to realize the actual living condition of me stroke patients after discharge, we collected 30 patients who had been admitted to National Cheng Kung University Hospital (NCKUH) under the diagnosis of cerebral vascular accident from November 1988 to August 1990. We interviewed directly with the families and patients, and followed them for up to more than three years, so as to know the real problems encountered by the patients during the postdischarged period. For the purpose of improving the life quality of patients, we also investigated the adaptability of the living enviorment andthe necessity of persistent rehabilitation at home.To reduce the risk of accidental injuries, this study discovered the most frequent places where the stroke patients got a fall. The quality of the caregiver usually influenced the outcome of stroke patients after disacharge. The psychological conflicts of families after long term care of the stroke patients were still undetermined.We would like to discuss with family about this topic. At last, we also want to know the family's plans of patient placement after long term care. We hoped all the findings of this study could give some information to make a practical plan for the care and settle of the post-discharge stroke patients.
