Abstract
Myofascial pain syndrome is a common diagnosis in the outpatient department. Ciinicians often emphasize pain management and neglect the under-lying causes. This study was based on 5 cases of microtumor manifested with myofascial pain syndrome. The data were collected from April 1984 to December 1991 in Veterans General Hospital Taichung. The clinical symptoms which lasted from 1 month to 17 years, physical examination which included active, passive & resisted active ROM, painpattern, image study, operative findings and outcome will be discussed. We should pay more attention to the underlying causes of myofascial pain syndrome. This study reports the possibility of microtumor. Clinically, we will not miss a diagnosis by history, pain pattern & duration, and accurate image study, i.e. X-ray, CT, whole body bone scan, and MRI.
