Abstract
Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between Hemophilia Joint Health Score 2.1 (HJHS 2.1) and Hemophilia Early Arthropathy Detection with Ultrasound (HEAD-US) in Taiwanese patients with severe hemophilia and identify specific items within HJHS to predict early ultrasonic changes in hemophilic arthropathy (HA).
Methods: Thirty-six patients with a total of 210 joints were evaluated. We used Spearman's rank correlation coefficient to analyze the correlation between these two scales. The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of each HJHS item were also calculated to predict early HA.
Results:These two scales showed very strong correlation in the total scores (r = 0.84, p < 0.01) and moderate strong correlation in subtotal scores of elbow, ankle and knee joints (r=0.67, 0.57, 0.78 accordingly, all p
Conclusion: The correlation between the two scales is strong in severe hemophilic patients. Limited range of motion in the three joints indicates the need for further image evaluation.
