Abstract
Nineteen cases of paraplegia due to decompression sickness were experienced from May 1983 to August 1985. All were the male fishermen. Their ages ranged from twenty-three yeras to fifty yeras.There were five with complete thoracic cord injury, seven with imcomplete thoracic cord injury and one with complete lumber cord injury, six with imcomplete lumber cord injury. All the patients had received hyperbaric treatment and rehabilitation. There were six persons with severe spasticity during discharge. Others had the symptom of mild incontinence. The study shows that early treatment may reduce complication. The most frequent seasons were spring & summer. The majority of the cases were thoracic cord injury.
