Abstract
Twenty-two cases of age under 40 with cerebral vascular disease had received rehabilitation programs in Chang-Gung Memorial Hospital from June, 1980 lo December 1984, were follow up by questionnaires and telephone. Analysis of activities of daily living, communicating ability, vacational status, marital, economic conditions and compare with the abilities of the old age group were done. In the items of independence in activies of daily living, this study revealed an order sequence as toilet, dressing, self feeding, arid bathing. The majority of independent showed in toileting in 19 patients (86.4%). In this study, the independent ADL is better in right hemiplegia than left hemiplegia. The outcome of marriage group is better than the single. Among the items of general activities,18 patients could walk independently (81.8%). More than half of these patients had nominal speech in receptive, expressive, reading and understanding. In this study, the divorce rate showed no different between the young stroke and ordinary people. Unfortunately, the unemployment rate showed increase after stroke (59,0%). This was rather corelated with the independence of ADL, speech receptive, expressive, reading, understanding ability and walking ability. When compare with the aged stroke group, this study revealed better independence in bathing (63.6%:33.3%) and walking (81.8%:44.0%) in young age group, but no difference in toilet, dressing or feeding.
