Abstract

Bicycle injuries are the most common sports injuries in U.S. There are different causes, types, and sites of sports injury between amateur and professional cyclist. 16 Asian Games cyclists of our country participated in this survey study of cyclic sports injuries. We used questionaire and physical examination to complete this study. According to the result of questionaire, the most frequently lesion sites were: knee (87.5%), low back (81.3%), hand (56.3%). The others were; ankle, head, upper extremity. hip (in their orders of frequency). Acoordng to the result of physical examination, the most frequently found types of injuries were: muscle strain (81.3%), nerve entrapment (62.5%), the others were: tendonitis, chondromalacia, contussion and abrasion, sprain (in their orders of frequency). Combination of above lesion sites and types, the most frequent disorders were: Low Back Pain, nerve entrapment of hand, patella chondromalacia, patella tendinitis. There was no linear relationship between intensity of training and incidence of disorders. There was also no obviously positive correlation between total number of years participated and incidence of disorders. All of the cyclists had at least one kind of sports injuries, but they rarely received treatment. We should supply the medical services to let the cyclists have the best healthy condition, so they could get the best resuts in their bicycling games.
